My Favorite Tips For Using QuickBooks Are…

Clean up the chart of accounts and to set up automatic bank downloads. Eliminating unnecessary accounts from your file will make plenty of things easier such as reading the financial statements. Getting rid of the clutter can only lead to positive results. The automatic bank feed is probably one of my favorite features. With the automatic bank feed, the transactions are downloaded into QuickBooks daily, leaving only the job of coding the transactions to the appropriate accounts. This minimizes time required and maximizes efficiency.

In QuickBooks there are many key command short cuts. Below are a list of the ones I use most:

Ctrl + A brings up the chart of accounts

Ctrl + Y when in a transaction window (enter a bill or invoice) will open a window to show the debits and credits being entered into the system

Ctrl + H shows the history - for example if a bill has been paid it will show the check #, date, and amount when it was paid

Below are key command short cuts when using date ranges in QuickBooks:

T = today's date

Y = beginning of the year - continually pressing Y will set the date back to prior year(s)

M = goes back to first of the month - continually pressing M will go back to the beginning of the prior month(s)

H = goes do the end of the month - continually pressing H will set the date to the end of the next month(s)

W = beginning of the week (Sunday) - continually pressing M will go back in weekly increments

R = end of the year - continually pressing R will set the date to the end of the next year(s)K = end of the week (Saturday) - continually pressing

K will go forward in weekly increments

; = goes backwards in monthly increments - for example today is 6/19/14 and hitting ; will set the date to 5/19/14

' = goes forwards in monthly increments - for example today is 6/19/14 and hitting ' will set the date to 7/19/14
